Several freeway closures are scheduled this weekend in the Phoenix area (Jan. 6-9). The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is encouraging drivers to use alternate routes while the following closures are in place:
- Eastbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) will be closed at Scottsdale Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 7) to allow crews to install pavement sensors for the City of Scottsdale’s photo enforcement program. Traffic will exit and reenter the freeway at Scottsdale Road.
- Westbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) will be closed at Hayden Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 7) andfrom 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 8) for City of Scottsdale photo enforcement sensor work. Traffic will exit and reenter the freeway at Hayden Road.
- Southbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) will be closed at Raintree Drive from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 8) andfrom 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday (Jan. 9) for City of Scottsdale photo enforcement sensor work. Traffic will exit and reenter the freeway at Raintree Drive.
- Eastbound Interstate 10 will be narrowed to one lane (left lane open) between 48 th Street and the US 60 (Superstition Freeway) interchange from 10 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 7) andfrom 10 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 8) for overhead sign installation work. Eastbound I-10 entrance ramps at 40 th Street, State Route 143 and Broadway Road will be closed, along with the eastbound I-10 ramp to eastbound US 60. Eastbound I-10 drivers in the downtown Phoenix area are encouraged to use the eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) as an alternate route to reach the East Valley during these overnight restrictions.

Westbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) will be narrowed to one lane between Higley Road and Val Vista Drive from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Jan. 9) for bridge work at Greenfield Road. Drivers should give themselves extra travel time in the area. They also should consider using an alternate route, including the westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway).
- Southbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) in the West Valley will be narrowed to one lane (two right lanes closed) between Northern Avenue and Camelback Road from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 7) for lane striping. Southbound exit and entrance ramps between Northern and Camelback will be closed. Drivers are encouraged to give themselves extra travel time in the area or use alternate routes to avoid anticipated traffic backups.
- Southbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) in the West Valley will be narrowed to one lane (right two lanes closed) between Camelback and Thomas roads from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 8) for lane striping. The southbound entrance ramp at Camelback Road will be closed. Drivers are encouraged to give themselves extra travel time in the area or use alternate routes to avoid traffic backups.
- Northbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) in the West Valley will be closed between Camelback Road and Glendale Avenue from 9 p.m. Saturday to 12 p.m. (noon) Sunday (Jan. 8) for bridge support construction. Drivers can detour along 91 st or 99 th avenues before reentering the freeway at Glendale or Northern avenues.
- Northbound Interstate 17 will be closed between the I-10 “Split” interchange (near Sky Harbor Airport) and 7 th Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 7) for overhead message board repair work. I-10 traffic will not be able to connect to northbound I-17 at the “Split.” Instead, drivers can detour along eastbound I-10 in order to reach I-17 at the “Stack” interchange west of 19 th Ave.
- Northbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) will be narrowed to one lane at Cactus Road in Scottsdale from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday (Jan. 9) andfrom 9 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 10) for City of Scottsdale photo enforcement sensor installation. Drivers should give themselves extra travel time in the area during the overnight restrictions.
