Bullhead Area Transit System Named Outstanding Provider

The Arizona Transit Association (AzTA) has selected the Bullhead Area Transit System (BATS) as the outstanding 5311 provider for 2006.  Larry Weimken, Vice-Chair of the BATS Commission accepted the award at the annual AzTA Conference held in Tempe, Arizona on April 27th.

The Arizona Department of Transportation distributes more than $2.7 million annually from the Federal Transit Administration Section (FTA) Section 5311 Rural Transportation Program to fund transit systems in communities with populations of less than 50,000.  BATS is one of fourteen FTA Section 5311 Providers in Arizona.

This statewide award recognizes BATS for:

§ Creative use of available resources to add the BATSmobile #2 Blue Line Route
§ Successfully absorbing growth in passenger trips of 312% over the past five years
§ Reducing the cost per passenger trip by 16% since 2000
§ Succeeding in its mission of providing safe, affordable and efficient transportation for the residents of and visitors to Bullhead City.

AzTA is an Arizona non-profit organization that serves as an advocate for the advancement of public transportation programs and initiatives in Arizona.  The Outstanding 5311 Provider Award is recognized as a prestigious honor in the Arizona public transportation community.
