SUBJECT:  House Changes to S.B. 1166 – stopping vehicles on highways

As passed by the Senate, S.B. 1166 allows public transportation vehicles to stop on a controlled access highway.

The House of Representatives amended the bill to authorize local authorities to allow public transportation vehicles to stop on a state highway or state route to embark and disembark passengers if the local authority conducts a traffic and engineering study, which must be approved by the Arizona Department of Transportation Director, that finds the location to be safe to pick up and drop off passengers.
