The Chief Engineering Technician—Small Wireless Facilities position is responsible for performing site research and virtual site walks to determine validity of requested locations from wireless carries desiring to place their facilities on City streetlight poles. Knowledge of City Streetlight guidelines and requirements as well as familiarity with wireless facility regulations and equipment placement within right-of-way is preferred. Field visits to sites may be necessary and may require contact with customers in person and the ability to work outside in all types of weather. This position will also be responsible for reviewing detailed wireless carrier and utility construction plans and ensuring that all work is performed in conformance to city, state and federal guidelines for issuance of construction permits to licensed and franchised utility companies within the public rights-of-way. Other responsibilities may include managing utility coordination as it relates to Capital Improvement Projects by coordinating timely relocations, establishment of new electrical services for City facilities and acting as the liaison between utility companies and City Project Managers, outside consultants and City Inspectors for the duration of assigned construction projects.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Knowledge of Small Wireless Facilities terminology, equipment and installation requirements.
Experience reading, interpreting, analyzing and approving small wireless facility installation plans.
Knowledge of City of Phoenix Streetlight guidelines and requirements.
Experience interpreting utility company design plans.
Experience using Microsoft Office programs and CitizenServe.
Currently there are two vacancies in the Street Transportation Department’s Traffic Services Division with Unit 3 salary and benefits.

Unit 3 $21.63 (minimum) - $31.77 (maximum) hourly / $44,990 - $66,082 annually.
Unit 7 $21.48 (minimum) - $31.98 (maximum) hourly / $44,678 - $66,518 annually

Five years of experience in paraprofessional engineering work, including two years of paraprofessional civil engineering experience (or one year at the level of Senior Engineering Technician).
Individuals must be physically capable of operating the City vehicles on City businesses safely, possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS – The job requirements listed above, plus:
Five (5) years of experience in a technical and plan review environment such as civil/ street transportation engineering, planning and development, or a related field.
