Regional Transportation Planner

Compensation: Salary: $46,932- $84,157

General Description/Information

Oversight of all multimodal transportation planning on the State Highway System within assigned transportation planning regions. Serve as the ADOT liaison for Council of Governments (COG) and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO) within assigned transportation planning regions. Implementation of ADOT’s performance-based Planning to Programming (P2P) process to develop ADOT’s Draft Five Year Construction Program. Management of complex, long-range, multi modal planning studies and consultant contracts/activities. Management of various transportation planning programs.


COG/MPO oversight responsibilities: serve as ADOT liaison, federal aid compliance, Work Program and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) oversight, serve on Technical Advisory Committees (requires travel), and approving invoices

Project management responsibilities (transportation planning studies): scope development, oversight of scope/schedule/budget, facilitation, coordination, manage consultant contracts, and approve consultant invoices

P2P Implementation: coordinate with various ADOT sections and COGs/MPOs to identify project needs, utilize spreadsheets and databases to apply performance criteria to projects, and facilitate workshops

Initiate continuous improvements in planning processes, programs, and studies associated with State and Regional Planning

Coordinate with federal, tribal, state, regional, and local planning stakeholders on external planning studies, activities, and initiatives
