Transit Administrator

Compensation: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00/annually DOQ

General Description/Information

The City of Sedona recently completed a transit plan and now seeks to move forward with next steps towards implementation to provide effective transit services across multiple jurisdictions within the greater Sedona area and Oak Creek Canyon.

The recently completed (2019) study sought to design a transit system that will protect the environment, improve mobility, provide a viable alternative mode of transportation, reduce the number of vehicles on area roadways during the busiest and most congested periods, and reduce the number of vehicles seeking parking at locations where capacity to accommodate vehicles is lacking. Now that the plan is completed and the City has a roadmap for implementation, the City seeks to hire a full-time Transit Administrator, supplemented by additional consultant services as needed, to pursue the implementation tasks necessary over the next several years to establish the new system by 2024.

The Transit Administrator will establish strategic plans, foster interagency cooperation, secure necessary funding, and ensure compliance of all laws and community guidelines as it relates to public transportation. The position also administers transit operating contracts, including direction and supervision of operations, and financial matters and performance.

Qualifications/Requirements

Applicants must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, management, public administration, planning or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Seven to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in the transit industry including five to seven years managerial experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

A Master’s degree in public administration, business administration, engineering, planning or other advanced executive level training is preferred.

Must be well versed in business processes, contract and grant administration and information systems. A comprehensive understanding of public transit issues, and familiarity with AzDOT and FTA regulations and other related regulations, and experience leading a transit start-up effort, is strongly preferred.
