Transit Operations Coordinator

Compensation: $66,372.80-$96,491.20

General Description/Information

To perform a variety of technical, analytical and administrative duties to coordinate, monitor, and track the operations of contracted transit service, maintenance of transit vehicles and facilities, and plan to meet future transit needs of the City.


  • Monitors and evaluates contract compliance, responsible for complaint resolution for the City’s local fixed bus routes and Trolley system.
  • Operates a motor vehicle in the duties of compliance check and complaint resolution.
  • Works directly with contractor, regional or city staff on local operational coordination (e.g. schedule development, proofing, run cutting, layover and turnaround specifications, detour planning and event planning and operations).
  • Coordinates operations for local fixed route and Trolley circulator system. Works directly with contractor on operations planning, implementation, and problem resolution. Monitors and inspects contractor operations so that transit service is provided in a manner appropriate to contractual specifications, city standards, and established performance measurements.
  • Compiles statistical data and prepares reports used in the preparation of operating budgets and bid specifications for equipment, fleet and service contracts.
  • Attends regional meetings as needed.
  • Meets and communicates with customers, other city divisions/department/services and service providers to discuss city transit services, equipment, and facilities; investigates and resolves customer complaints and manages customer contact database.
  • Works collaboratively with transit planning staff in the planning and implementation of new services, work methods, policies, procedures, and division goals and objectives.
  • Measures costs associated with existing and proposed equipment, functions, maintenance methods, and procedures to assure city vehicles are maintained appropriately and within schedule.
  • Generates financial reports and keeps records for service costs, ridership, and system characteristics.
  • Performs National Transit Database (NTD) reporting and performance management assessments including an annual performance management report for the system.
  • Maintains a variety of informational databases on the city’s bus fleet and operations characteristics.
  • Participates in preparation of contracts for service, procurement of materials and equipment used in transit operations.


  • Two years of college-level coursework in Transit Planning, Business Administration, Contract Administration, Planning, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Three years of recent and progressively responsible transit related experience in areas such as transit planning, transit operations, asset management, accounting and purchasing.
  • An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver’s licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
