Shift differential offered for 2nd and 3rd shifts.

Valley Metro is currently seeking a Signal Systems Technician to be part of our Maintenance of Way team. This position is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing rail signals, safety systems, and track switches to ensure the safe operation of Valley Metro's 30-mile light rail system which span from Northwest Phoenix to downtown Mesa. 


The ideal candidate will have experience in rail signaling systems and track switches. This experience should include inspecting, trouble shooting, and repairing equipment. The Signal Systems Technician will also repair ticket/fare vending machines (TVMs) as needed.

The Maintenance of Way team consists of staff responsible for maintaining Valley Metro's light rail track, communications systems, overhead catenary system (OCS), and traction power substations.

This position is a non-exempt (hourly) position.

Qualifications/Requirements

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

 

High School Diploma or G.E.D. plus two (2) years of experience with electromechanical or electronic systems including Ohms Law, OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties as those listed below may be considered.

Must be available to work weekends, holidays, overtime and irregular hours; may be called back in emergency situations. 

Position requires the incumbent to successfully pass the safety and track worker protection certification and to maintain ongoing education and training requirements of the position.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in electrical/electronic engineering technology from a two (2) year Technical College or institute
  • Railroad signaling school or transit experience

Medical Examination:
Employment for safety sensitive positions is contingent on passing a DOT physical examination.

Drug Test:
This position is safety sensitive and subject to Valley Metro RPTA's Drug & Alcohol Program.

Background Investigation:
Employment is contingent upon the results of background and credit checks. 

Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Arizona Driver's License
Position requires the ability to maintain insurability under Valley Metro's Vehicle Insurance Policy.

Incumbent is required to have a CDL permit (CDL Class B) permit upon hire and license within 90 days of hire, and maintain a current valid Arizona Commercial Driver's License (CDL Class B) with Air Brakes endorsement.
