Argument in Opposition to Proposition 105

People Boarding Bus

AzTA recommends a NO vote for Proposition 105. Phoenix voters have voted three times for a comprehensive transportation plan which includes light rail. Maricopa County is one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. We must continue to have a variety of options to manage our growth.

Light rail is highly effective, carrying almost 16 million people each year and attracting more than $11 billion in public and private economic development along the route. We need ALL modes — including light rail, rideshare and autonomous vehicles — to support our quick growth and limited real estate within Phoenix. Light rail and other high-capacity transit options are and will continue to be the most effective way to move large numbers of people in finite spaces.

This proposition also removes all new rail options. This impacts not just Phoenix but the entire Valley. As the County continues to grow at a fast pace, commuter rail may be a future option for residents of other cities who travel to Phoenix. This initiative prohibits any new rail commuter service in Phoenix.

Your NO vote will continue to help make Phoenix a true great American City … it only makes sense to continue to meet growing transportation needs. Vote NO on Prop. 105.
