The public transportation industry is gearing up for the inaugural Get on Board Day on April 25, 2019 and you can help! Our national legislators are on a recess from Washington, D.C. and that means they are back in their home states, ready to listen to their constituents.

The day is all about showcasing the value of and gaining support for public transit. With a unified voice, we will come together to highlight how public transit benefits people and communities. Public transit is more than buses and light rail, it also includes subways, commuter trains, streetcars and trolleys (we’re looking at you, Sun Link!) van pool services, and paratransit for senior citizens and people with disabilities.

Here in Arizona, we run the gamut from urban areas like Tucson and Phoenix to rural communities like Cottonwood/Sedona and Payson. Some of the transit challenges are different, but regardless of whether you live in a big city or a small town, the benefits of keeping our communities connected and moving are undeniable. From the economic savings to providing accessible transportation for our seniors and physically disabled citizens, public transit is a vital part of our state.

So how can you participate? It’s super easy! To find out if your local transit organizations and transit providers are hosting a #GetOnBoard event or activity, you can check the current list of participants here: http://tinyurl.com/yxw5n876

If your local public transportation or public transit providers aren’t on the list, you can still make your voice heard. Visit https://getonboardday.org/ and sign a petition or share your awesome stories about public transportation. Speak up for public transportation and let your legislators know how important this issue is for Arizonans!
