Shift differential pay is offered for 2nd and 3rd shifts.

Under general direction from the Facilities Maintenance Manager, the Materials Handler receives issues and stores materials, supplies, tools, parts and equipment for system maintenance; maintains stock and inventory records using Maintenance Management Information System, (MMIS).

Responsibilities/Duties

Responsible for efficient ordering, receiving, storing and requisitioning of supplies, tools, spare and replacement parts, and equipment used in repair and maintenance;

Receives incoming orders, unpacks materials, supplies, tools and equipment; verifies articles received against packing lists and purchase requisitions and notes discrepancies or damaged items; coordinates reconciliations with vendors;

Monitors stock levels and contacts vendors regarding requested materials and supplies not stocked;

Produces general reports using standard office equipment, including a computer in the course of the work;

Stores articles on designated shelves, racks or in other storage areas; ensures storage area is in clean and orderly condition;

Maintains automated stock and inventory control records; enters and retrieves information from MMIS; participates in physical inventory of stock on hand;

Coordinates with departmental staff to distribute orders as needed;

Coordinates both warranty and charged repairs as needed (external and internal repairs);

Uses basic hand and power tools common to the work of the department;

May drive a motor vehicle to pick up and deliver supplies;

Packs and returns damaged, surplus or outdated materials as instructed.

Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of:
Methods and practices of receiving, storing and issuing materials, equipment, tools and supplies;
Inventory control recording keeping practices and procedures;
Use and maintenance of basic hand and power tools related to the work;
Computer applications related to the maintenance of inventory control records;
Standard office practices and procedures including filing and the operation of standard office equipment;

Skill in:
Performing accurate receipt, storage and issuance of materials, supplies and equipment;
Maintaining accurate inventory control records by manual and automated methods;
Safety using and maintaining hand and power tools and materials handling equipment related to the work;
Operating a forklift;
Making accurate arithmetic calculations;
Understanding and following oral and written directions;
Working without close supervision in standard work situations;
Contributing to effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions in a warehouse setting.

Incumbent must perform heavy manual labor, strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment up 100 pounds with proper equipment.

Work Environment:
Warehouse setting. Requires lifting of equipment and supplies. Exposure to extreme weather, cramped, dusty, noisy spaces.

Qualifications/Requirements

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:

High School Diploma, or G.E.D. equivalent


Two (2) years of experience as a stock/parts clerk, or materials handler in a warehouse environment, or similar work.
An equivalent combination of relevant education & experience may be considered.

Background Investigation:
Employment is contingent upon the results of a background check

Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Arizona driver's license
Must obtain a forklift operators card within 90 days of hire.
