Join the Valley Metro Service Planning Team!  As a member of our planning team, you will be instrumental in our service planning efforts, offering planning expertise and technical assistance to drive initiatives forward. By monitoring transit data trends and researching industry best practices you will provide valuable insights shaping our strategic direction. You will also collaborate with city staff, operations staff and contractors to ensure seamless coordination of transit services.

Planner: $62,885.00 - $94,328.00 Annually

The Planner position performs entry-level professional planning duties in support of studies and projects led by more senior level staff. Work is reviewed for appropriate results by a direct supervisor or a project manager.  Provides planning and technical assistance in support of service planning initiatives, including monitoring, and analyzing transit ridership trends and best practices. Incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency, which meet the qualifications for the higher-level class.

The Senior Planner performs professional planning duties in support of studies and projects led by more senior level staff; and serves as the lead or project manager for small scale studies and projects, leading teams of other professional staff and consultants. The Senior Planner shall contribute to team efforts and represents Agency core values in the performance of duties.

Qualifications/Requirements

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

Planner - Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field is required and six months of planning related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties listed is required.  Master’s Degree desirable.

Background Investigation:  Employment is contingent upon the results of a background check.
 
Licenses and Certifications:  Valid Arizona Driver's License.

Senior Planner - Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field is required and three (3) years of transportation planning experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties listed. AICP designation desirable.   Master’s Degree is desirable.
